Privacy Policy
WindyKnits is built around the principle that your knitting is yours. This policy explains what limited data the app processes, when, and why.
1. What WindyKnits collects from you
Sign in with Apple. When you sign in, Apple provides WindyKnits with an anonymous user identifier and, optionally, your name and email address. This information is stored only on your device, in the iOS Keychain and on-device storage. It is never transmitted to us or any third party.
Projects, patterns, and counters. Everything you create or import in WindyKnits — your project list, imported pattern text, row counts, and notes — is stored on your device. We do not have a server, so this data is not sent to us.
2. Pattern parsing
When you import a PDF pattern, WindyKnits uses one of two parsers:
- Apple Intelligence (on-device). On supported devices, pattern text is processed entirely on your iPhone or iPad using Apple's on-device foundation models. No pattern data leaves your device.
- Anthropic Claude (cloud, opt-in). If your device does not support Apple Intelligence, you can optionally enable cloud parsing in Settings. This requires you to provide your own Anthropic API key. When enabled, section headers and short pattern snippets are sent directly from your device to Anthropic's API for parsing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this transmission. Your API key is stored only in the iOS Keychain on your device. We do not see your key, your patterns, or Anthropic's responses.
You can disable cloud parsing at any time in Settings → Cloud Parsing.
3. What WindyKnits does not do
- No analytics. WindyKnits contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporters, or tracking SDKs.
- No advertising. There are no ads, and no ad identifiers are accessed.
- No accounts on our servers. We do not operate a server. There is no WindyKnits account separate from your local Sign in with Apple session.
- No data sales. We do not sell, share, or rent any data, because we do not collect any.
4. Children
WindyKnits is rated 4+ and is appropriate for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
5. Your choices
- Sign out at any time in Settings → Sign Out. This removes your sign-in identity from the device.
- Delete the app to remove every project, counter, and stored credential from your device.
- Revoke Sign in with Apple from iOS Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple → WindyKnits.
